    cosmonaut diy thread

Starting some DIY projects this winter. Fabric arrives in two weeks. I like to keep all my forum DIY projects in once place.

    • 12’ single layer GE hammock based on Jellyfish's Nova Harmony pattern: moroccan blue 1.6 hyper D XL, black .9oz mesh bugnet. symmetrical.
    • 12’ half-door tarp: charcoal grey 1.1 silpoly. based on the Badlander on this forum.
    • ultralight wallet and zip pouches using up my scraps.

Sounds like you are going to have a great winter! (Hyper d is an amazing fabric- good choice!). Question- what is the nova pattern?
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

    Excited to watch your progress!

@stevebo the Nova pattern referenced is (I think) the one @jellyfish created and did a video series on.

    as Salt mentioned: https://jellyfishreport.blogspot.com...e-hammock.html

I'm completely ruining the mathematical harmony by making it 12' by 68" thanks to a reddit member, but Jellyfish's instruction is perfectly thorough for a first-timer.

I've never experienced the material before, but it seems to be a great starting point for my weight.

i’m rethinking my hammock, 1.6 hyperD might stretch too much for me. it seems 1.7 MTN xl would be a better fit. worst case I practice on the hyperD and test before sewing the bugnet on.

1.7 MTN xl in the color I want is sold out unfortunately.

Update: went with 1.8 Airwave. Fabric arrived today. I mistakenly ordered the wrong silpoly for my tarp. I may offer it for sale cheap on the for sale section (10 yards of 0.9 MEMBRANE silpoly)

Here’s a photo in indoor light. The morocco blue seems very light/bright compared to photos, and not at all like my morocco blue underquilt. Should have the hammock finished by year end.

Life certainly got in the way. FINALLY started the hammock today.
Going with the 11' long Jelly Fish Nova Jungle Hammock. Decided against 12' for something a little lighter. So far the hammock body is sewn, end caps are hemmed and ready to attach with a total weight of 14oz. The bugnet and zipper will add some weight. If it ends up under 1.5 pounds, i'll be very happy.
Hoping to get the end caps sewn on tonight. I'll hang it on some zing-it for a quick photo.
