I am updating this thread and linking where the planning is taking place at. I am going to close this thread to help avoid confusion. Deb/Moderator

The hang is definitely happening, but this was just the save-the-date thread. The official planning thread on HR for the hang is located here:

Just curious if there will be a group hang area,or if we should attempt to book a site at Caledonia State Park

Dutch & Crew reserve the entire group site. Show up and pick out your trees. The raffle money pays for the sites, fire wood, and the balance is donated to the park. So be sure to buy some raffle tickets, usually $10 each.

Weather can vary substantially in South Central PA in the Spring. Temps are usually in the 60s during the day upper 30s to low 40s at night, but it's been known to get up into the upper 80s and drop well below freezing in past years (though not recently). It does rain in the Spring like a lot of places, but it's not a regular or constant thing. I'd say maybe a 30-40% chance for any given MAHAA. May is actually a wetter month, but I recommend you bring a tarp all the same. The skeeters haven't come out in full force yet and it's generally too chilly in the evenings for them to stay out anyway. I usually sleep in a netless hammock.

Bottom line is that chances are pretty good that you'll have mild weather, but you should prepare for the extremes just in case. If you're in a situation where you must travel light, you needn't worry. Many of those in attendance generally will bring extra gear in case someone is in need.

There's no place within the boundaries of Caledonia State Park to kayak that I know of. Long Pine Reservoir is only about five minutes to the North, but I doubt that it would be very exciting and certainly not worth trucking your kayak all the way down from Massachusetts for. No coves or inlets or things like that to explore. There's a creek that runs through the park but it's too narrow and shallow for kayaks. I'd say leave the kayaks at home unless you're planning to stop somewhere else along the way. Others who know the area better than I do may disagree and point you to decent local kayaking, but that part of PA is not really a kayak mecca.

Someone usually posted the weather forecast a week out, so keep an eye open.
