    How wide is too wide?

I've been year-round hammock camping for about six years. Much of that has been in a DWG Chameleon Wide symmetrical. Love that hammock, but I'm trying something new and now buying a Dreamhammock Sparrow.

I want another wide hammock. My chameleon is 68" wide. My question is if the full 74" of the Sparrow would be too wide. Is there such a thing? I'm aware of the extra fabric issues, but was only occasionally bothered by that even though I rarely used tie-outs. My biggest potential concern is that extra diagonal lay my cause issues with my under quilt in winter camping.

I have a Sparrow ordered. The piece I'm working on with Dreamhammock is whether I should limit the width.

    • Wide as Possible - 74"

Your thoughts and advice are appreciated.

I’m an inch shorter than you and ~170lbs, and I don’t like them much wider than 60”. I find the excess material flaps loose around the net perimeter and limits views from the hammock via the “wall” effect. But plenty of folks on here like wide hammocks so you’re bound to get multiple opinions on width preference.

Agree with Twistytee. I'm 5'7" and my Blackbird is 62" and that's **** near perfect. I have a Dutchware 11' netless that's 58" and Myerstech that's 54" wide and they're great too. I can lie flat it any of them and get to see outside of my hammock and feel part of my surroundings.

My first hammock was a Grand Trunk double that's 78" wide. Got it 7 years ago and everyone said "get the double hammock to lie straighter." I hated it. It totally enveloped me and I couldn't enjoy the view or the breeze through the sides because there was just too much fabric.

It is like a Twin bed verses a California King bed.

    https://tableclothsfactory.com/produ...lar-tablecloth

    Polyester hemmed tablecloths at $12.39 each, 90" x 156".

Just take it to a sewing machine shop and they can sew two-channels; you now have a great hammock.

The extra width allows for folding in the sides for a nice "shelf" for head or feet, or both.

Get the sag right, and it will last a long time.
