Hi, from Denton NC. Hammocks are a great adventure, hanging high and dry—even if raining
Hello from South MS.
Hey there!
When I first started looking at this hammock stuff, I had a tendency to wait for everything to be perfect. I wanted to sleep outside, but felt like I needed to have the perfect ultralight backpacking gear. So, it turns out that was a waste of time.
I say go ahead and take whatever you’ve got and go hang for a few hours in a park, some woods, or the backyard. Wherever you can. Do it for an hour if that’s all you got.
Don’t have a fancy tarp? Get some regular rope and a cheap plastic tarp from Ace Hardware.
Don’t have fancy insulation? Get a big heavy blanket or two and rig it up with bungee cords or something.
If you have the time, drive it all to a pretty, quiet wooded area and spend an afternoon reading.
Just, you know, watch out for those gigantic Louisiana mosquitoes!
Welcome! The bayou country is where I grew up. Keep an eye out for the Group Hangs in your area, I hear the food is pretty good!

SkeezyT - welcome the forum. You are unique in that I've never seen a post where the poster had a zero post count. Some kind of quantum physics voodoo?
Do not think that everything has to be perfect to start. Do not think there is one ideal hammock for you. As Yoda meant to say, "There is no Best; only try."
Lots to learn reading here - but in the Rock, Paper, Scissors of life, experience beats out words.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
Thanks for the warm welcome. First hammock is a blackbird xlc double . Just order a jacks r better big meadow top quilt. Will be probably doing my first hang in my yard. I’m lucky enough that I still live out in the country enough to do so.
