    Perfect Asym Down Underquilt

In the below YouTube video I introduce a custom 20-degree asymmetrical down underquilt specifically made for the Hennessy Hammock Ultralight Backpacker Zip. I recognize that there have been other attempts to make an asymmetrical underquilt, but I have never seen one specifically made for the Hennessy Hammock or one that uses down for the insulation. To accomplish this build, I sent my Hennessy Hammock Undercover Protector to Ben Smith of Goose Feet Gear and worked with him to create a down underquilt specifically for my Ultralight Backpacker hammock using the undercover protector. As far as we know, this is the first ever down underquilt specifically made for the Hennessy Hammock Ultralight Backpacker Asym Zip.

Nice job on your video. Thank you for sharing.

That's brilliant! I've been thinking about getting a JrB UQ for my classic Hennessey, but was a bit put off by the fit (and the potential cold spot where the slits align). Your design certainly fits better from your video, and I think GooseFeet could add a down filled flap over the custom UQ slit which would stop the cold spot.

Goose Feet makes some great gear. Did you ever try the JacksRBetter 'The Nest'. That quilt was made/designed specifically for the bottom entry Hennessy. Also, Arrowhead Equipment makes a synthetic version for the Hennessy as well. Just wondering if you had tried either?

I used a Nest on one winter trip. It worked great.

Note the snow dug out under the hammock. Because you can't reach as high in the trees - snow is soft around the base so you sink in - you have to "lower" the ground.

More important in the winter is to pack out foot paths so you have solid footing if you need to get up in the middle of the night. It's no fun walking into mid-thigh snow.
