I took a quick overnight trip over to Henry W. Coe State Park. I had my backpack packed and ready to go for about a week; trying to find some motivation to get back out.
I’ve been getting back into photography. Ridge View has a nice view of the Sunset and the huge oak tree makes a nice subject. I dusted off the Olympus micro 4/3s camera and brought a small tripod, 12mm & 45mm prime lens, FL-36R flash, and other camera accessories. It added another 5lbs but since the hike was only a mile, the extra weight wasn’t a big deal.
Sunday lunch at my brother’s place was already scheduled. There was rain forecast for Saturday morning. Perfect. I could test out the Hammock Gear Journey tarp in the rain.
What I didn’t expect was the wind. Gusts must have been in the 25MPH range. The tarp would bow and stretched through out the night. It was so intense the tarp would hug against the bug net of the hammock. Adjustments to give myself interior room would result in stakes flying out. Eventually, the stakes held up with the help of rocks. Needless to say, I didn’t get much sleep that night.
When morning came, it started to rain. It was actually really nice. The wind would die off and come back a few times, but for the most part, hearing the drops on the tarp was peaceful. Everything held up fine and stayed dry.
I hope you like the pictures.
