Hello from just north of Toronto

Long time listener, first time caller… Shug sent me, I guess.

Me: Musician, former IT/Tech Consultant, amateur nightscape/nature/macro photographer once the world changed in 2020 and the gigs all went away; I got interested in hammock camping from watching Shug’s videos, as a better way to get out under dark skies away from the city.

Started with a cheapo 8’ hammock, since ‘upgraded’ to a Onewind set (11’ Hammock, 12’ Tarp, full-length synthetic UQ). Still a total noob, have been lurking here looking for an opportunity to join a local outing… almost tagged along the recent Temagami trip, but was fishing on the French River in August and suffered a wicked ankle sprain, so wasn’t feeling up to the challenge.

Anyway, looking at hopefully joining the Valens outing; will be posting to that thread next, but wanted to take a second to do the proper introduction first. Looking forward to learning more from the august assemblage here!

P.S.: Screen name is a reference to the character from the novel Trilby, as mispronounced in a Seinfeld episode.

Hi Svengolly, you missed a nice trip.

I look forward to meeting you at Valens and talking photography a bit.

Thanks very much Chard! Can’t wait for Valens and learn from the group how to improve my hang experience!

    Welcome from downstate NY.

You live it a beautiful part of the world, which I've had the great opportunity to visit several times with friends from the Carlisle/Guelph/Hamilton area, canoeing in Algonquin and some other areas.

Welcome from your neighbor next store! The one shaped like a mitten.

I try and get up to northern Ontario at least once a year to paddle and explore some of the countless canoe routes that you're so blessed to have. Sorry to hear about your ankle earlier this year on that French. That's a place I have not visited yet but would love to paddle in the fall.

Also looking forward to seeing some of your photography and even hoping for trip report or two! Maybe one from the French? lol

    Cheers,
    A.A.

Thank you sir! Funnily enough just watched a couple of your videos yesterday on tarp folding and ditching the snakeskin, adding to my knowledge base, thanks for those!

    Thank you A.A.

Quick trip report for French River: 1) Trip 2) Fall 3) Curse like a sailor.

I hope to be an active member of the forum and of upcoming events, if I fit in with the vibe (I enjoy Shug’s videos if that’s helpful? LOL). Once I’m comfortable I’m happy to share (hoping to catch some nightscape shots at Valens in fact).

Thanks Shug! I’m well-armed with the wisdom from your videos, time to get as much experience putting it into practice as possible, and get all secure in Sector 7!
