NC - Standing Indian Mountain Loop - 10/28-10/30

If anyone is interested in joining, El Gordo and I are meeting up Friday 10/28 at the Standing Indian Campground trailhead to do the 23 mile loop around the Nantahala Basin. We’ll likely go clockwise to make it a little easier on aging knees. Plan is to head to Betty Creek Gap Fri night and Standing Indian Sat night. Finish back to the cars on Sun 10/30. We won’t be setting any land speed records so feel free to join if this is of interest. Hammock camping in cool October NC elevation = heaven Feel free to post here or PM for more details.

Thanks for the thumbs up slowhike! I’ve done parts of the Nantahala before but not this loop. Looking forward to it.

I did this loop last weekend and I have never seen it drier and this was the 8th time I hiked it. Long Branch shelter, running fine. Carter's Gap Shelter, flow was the size of a pencil. Not sure about Betty Gap. Standing Indian peak was bone dry. Standing Indian Shelter was about 2 inches deep but barely flowing.

If it doesn't rain hard over the next two weeks, you might want to consider hiking it another time.
