To get my son into hammocks, I used a hiking pole as a spreader bar between our hammocks on the same two trees. There is a _drastic_ weight difference between us so I hung under him rather than beside him. It worked very well for us last year. But this year he has been comfortable being on his own two trees as long as I'm not far away.

Two adjoining hammocks is interesting but it seems like it would be a definite complexity adder on setup to get two hammocks to end up at the same height when loaded.

Yes, we basically cuddle in two different hammocks. But that only works if you're both heads in and feet out. If you're both in the same diagonal one of the hammocks will give you a wall in between. Then you're just pressed against the other w/ hammock material in between.
We haven't felt that getting them both at the same exact height has been super important, "close enough" works.

Interesting. Probably not a runner for me as she recently switched to a ridgeback and I am not letting those spreader bars near my precious…

i don’t have much to add, other than my wife and i love the dual hang with spreader bar and beetle buckles. i think it’s worth taking the time to figure it out.
