First DIY hammock with bugnet questions

    Hi!
After having made my first hammock and loving the process I’ve decided that I want to make another one with a built in Bugnet (or if too difficult a fronkey style). However, I have a few questions that I was hoping you fellow hammockers might be able to help me with.

    1. When sewing the zipper to the hammock, is this best done before or after whipping it?
    2. Do you recommend fully removable or attached on one side for first project?
    3. How would I go about measuring the net so that it won’t sag or be too tight once I’m in it?

Finally, any other tips or warnings?

Thanks, I appreciate any help. 😁

I personally like separate bug nets. Easy to take or not take. I had one with an attached bug net, and I still got bit through the hammock fabric. As a separate item you will not stress the mesh as you move around.

Sew the zipper on before whipping/gathering the end. You'll have more room to work and better control of the fabric when you get toward what will end up being the gathered end. Good luck!

Yeah also I read somewhere on this forum that an integrated net messes with the lay. Well I guess I’ll decide when my order from RSBTR arrives. **** you though, import taxes!

Dutch has a video showing the differences between the asym net and the symmetrical one for the Chameleon. That might give you something to work with in terms of general shape. I don't see an integrated net messing with the lay unless it's too tight where your head and shoulders are. On the other hand, too loose and it flops around.

I like the fact that an integrated net keeps the TQ in the hammock!

Jellyfish has a great video of sewing a zippered bugnet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqSvvSxjLmg
I haven't built one myself yet. It is on my ever-growing to-do sewing project list...

I sewed my bugnet following what Jellyfish did in the video draco_1967 posted above and it worked great. Her video was fairly straight forward and easy to follow
