    Need advice on hammock chair.

I am wanting to make a hammock chair, like the type that dream hammocks used to sell. Would the best way to go about that, be to just pretend it's a very short hammock? And sew it up that way? Are there any dimensions you would recommend?

Have been thinking about making something similar or getting one of these from dutch... does anyone have any experience with them? Seems like they've got to be more comfortable than a small cheap camp chair or stool, especially in areas where it's hard to find smooth flat ground to sit on.

The problem I have with mine is that you need trees to set it up which means you can’t have it by the fire, etc. Mine is comfortable enough, but I just like the flexibility of a camp chair when camping with others. If I’m by myself I sometimes bring it

Ohh good points! I can see how the arms might get squished if not sitting up.
Yeah sitting sideways by a fire without the ability to move closer or further away does not sound great, plus the foot-end suspension would be a pretty good tripping hazard for the others...
May be better just for relaxing in the backyard. Thanks for the input!

Besides the shoulder squeeze, they’re also cold. They would benefit from a small underquilt. I’ve used one for deer hunting for a past few years, but I hook a jacket to the outside of it.

Last season I made a half bridge chair which helps with the shoulder squeeze tremendously.

I am in the process of making a hammock chair I can sleep in.
I bought a Dream Hammock hammock chair but I too felt to much shoulder squeeze for long term comfort.
I have been using a style hammock (since 2007 I believe) that uses a trekking pole to spread it above my head.

    Pretty comfy.
I took my 11' x 48" hammock and tied a knot where I wanted the seat to be.
The biggest mistake was tying a knot rather than whipping it or sewing a channel.

I ended up with an uncomfortable ridge in the center and there is no untying that knot after my weight in hammock.
I rewhipped the head end twice but still didn't get all the ridge out.

If interested, there are pictures of how I use the trekking poles as a spreader bar in my HF gallery.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

I’ve made a few. Loved them at first. But the problem was at a group campfire/gathering area there weren’t always convenient trees nearby. Sometimes it worked.
For solo trips, I just sit in the hammock. Group gatherings I’ll pack a chair or sit pad.
Any chair is cold. Pad is your friend or design or buy a dedicated chair quilt.

Any cheap hammock can be folded in half and re-rigged to become a “chair”. Plus folding it creates a pocket double layer for pad. I used a camo hammock folded like that for hunting or quick hiking chair.
    Ambulo tua ambulo.
