    New Chameleon bugnet

Just got an email about this from Dutch. Symmetrical bugnet with spreader bar. Looks like a nice idea. I can only hope that there might be an aluminum pole option in the future... (I REALLY don't like fiberglass poles much!)

Is the pole included in the bugnet when ordered?

Just out of pure curiosity, what don't you like about fiberglass poles?

Looking at the amount of curve in that arc, it might be necessary. I suppose aluminum could be pre-bent, although it would take up more space and might be a bit unwieldy when packing.

I've seen them splinter way too many times.

    Probably true...

Maybe a pre-bent center piece? I know Easton makes them.

There's also one from DAC (plastic) but I've yet to locate one in the U.S.

I believe so. Can't imagine it not to be. It certainly isn't shown as an add-on option. And the price would suggest that as well.

They certainly have that history in tents, although in this "free floating" application I would not worry as much.

I've seen them fail — thankfully not my shelter! — in some tents... ice storms are the "acid test" for poles.

Worst tent for an ice storm, or heavy rain... TNF Tadpole. Don't know what the hell their designers were thinking with that flat triangle on top. Even aluminum poles were no match for that tent.

I always think about Quest Outfitters (which I've used a few times in the past... always excellent) but after googling it there are oodles and oodles of Al tent pole options, so some research is in order.
