    Plastic Nite Ize Figure 9

Can anyone tell me how durable the Nite Ize tent line kit is? Was thinking of using it for hanging a tarp. Thanks.

I used those on my guylines for a long time and even on the ridgeline - though once I realized there were metal ones too, I'd switch from the black plastic to silver metal for the ridgeline. If you are asking if they would hold for a day hike sun shield, yes they will. They have also worked on normal nights with a slight breeze. But an all-out typhoon - maybe not. The best way to find out is to seek the inclement weather you are concerned about and try it out - with some kind of backup handy if the piece should fail. Like I could tell you it would hold fine in a rain storm but my "rain storm" might be milder, or fiercer, than you are imagining.

At first, using split rings, I put Figure-9s on my tarp D-rings and ridgeline pull-outs. Understandably, that added a little weight to the bundle and a lot of pointy things wrapped in the nylon. These days, I'm leaning toward removing the guylines from the tarp itself and connecting them via clip-on line-locs once the tarp ridgeline is set.

So yeah, I used those 9s with a HH Hex tarp for quite a while. But I never had to deal with really bad weather because I don't plan my trips to occur during really bad weather. Sure, the weather can unexpectantly change, but it usually doesn't drop in a level 4 hurricane as a surprise.

I may still use them for guylines but they are no longer attached to my tarp. There's a "fuss" factor in that they are seldom, from setup to setup, at the right place on the line and they don't slide so well (into the desired place - I've never had them slip a line) on that nite-eze reflective line.

In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Like Cougarmeat above, I use the plastic ones, never had any failure. They're pretty handy

Had one of the larger (2") plastic ones snap when tensioning my tarp ridge line. I have used the same size metal ones for years on my big car camping tarp without problems.

I used the small plastic. Had one break. Changed to the metal ones & haven't had any trouble with them.

I love these! I've been buying them since 2012 on 5 different tarps and even my hot tent. I buy the kit with the trashy green line and throw it out and use the 9s. Well I don't throw it out but just bury it a box. It stretches and the rough braid makes most knots a horrible mess.

Storms, wind, ice, -15°...I'll keep on using them.

I have the metal version of these on all my tent stakes and on my tarp ridge line. Been using them for years, never had one fail. I find them to be very easy and convenient. When it's super rough out I'll give them an extra turn and tie an overhand knot just to be sure.

I also have used them for tarp tie-outs. Never had any issues and have some in my pack as back-up or utility lines. Cheap, light and handy to have on hand!
