Making Lynx rubber bands / elastic bands

My RR Lynx under-quilt has rubber bands that connect the lower end to the hammock via mini-carabiners.
I replaced one recently using the extra band that Brandon provides when you buy the under-quilt. Glad I brought it along on my canoe trip. Now I need to replace the other one.

Obviously they are just heavy rubber bands. I’m not going to order something from the States that costs $1.00.

Has anyone made their own from a bicycle inner tube or something? What size tire, etc? Just checking before I reinvent the wheel.

Why not take a length of shock cord that is about same size as your rubber band and tie a knot in shock cord to complete your loop.
A good knot could be an alpine butterfly loop, or an over hand bend ABOK 1410 also called European Death Knot. All these two, one in the same names describe is a bight tied into a loop with ends paired and tied in an overhand knot.

Or you can look for rubber bands that you may have, or can get easily in an office supply store. If the rubber bands are not sturdy enough, use two to four rubber bands stacked together as if they were one rubber band.

    Good luck

If you would consider an alternative, three loops of shock cord works well also.

Ranger bands, that’s the nickname for those rubber strips of tubing, are available online.
I’m not sure the exact size your quilt was supplied with? But here’s a chart explaining sizes…

How about women's pony tail hair bands?

I larksheaded small continuous loops from 1.75 dyneema through the hole for the carabiner. Now hanging the carabiners into the continuous loops. Much easier set-up and I really hope to be rubber band replacing free solution. I destroyed like 5 pieces for last 4 months.

I have these on the foot end, and a bit shorter on head end. Just to make it easier to hang the lynx.

Just wanted to thank everybody for their ideas. This is what makes this forum a great place to visit. I'm experimenting with a bunch of these ideas, and i 'll post something once I'm satisfied. Cheers, Sturgeon.
