We're still a go as of now. We'll be leaving here Friday morning and should arrive sometime early afternoon. Probably will park at West Morris Campground. Is there anything I need to know about parking there? Like a designated parking area for hikers? Is there a fee for parking? My first go at this spot.

Also we are probably gonna hit REI on our way through. Joe hasn't been there and is hunting for a decent chair. If anybody needs me to pick anything up just let me know.

uwarrie troy nc highway 109 to spencer creek bridge

I don’t think there is a fee for parking at the trailhead dirt and gravel pull out.
But if you park in a numbered campsite, there is a fee, think it’s $5 per night

Use Google Maps phone app for driving

    West Morris Mountain Campground
    Ophir Road # 600
    Uwharrie National Forest
    Troy NC

After you turn right off of Ophir Road
You will be on FS 6655 (road)
    It leads you into campground

Look for a dirt, grass, and gravel small pull out for your parking on left side of road (going in) marked with a small sign saying Trailhead or Uwharrie Trailhead. I’ll be parked there (blue Honda CRV)

If you miss Trailhead on way in, that’s ok you will be on a small one way circular loop around campground with numbered campsites
This will automatically return to same road, now going out. Look for Trailhead pull out parking—now on your right.
At far high end of small lot, hike by and pass pole gate. Hike up the trail-old dirt road about 200 yards

You will see Posted and No Trespassing Signs
You will see on a tree an Arrow sign pointing to your right
Turn right there on small trail blazed with yellow blazes
Hike about 1/3 mile and will see two wooden signs
One sign says West Morris Mountain Spur Trail
The other sign says Uwharrie Trail North and South

    Go South on Uwharrie Trail
It is marked with white blazes
Total distance from Trail Head parking lot to Spencer Creek Bridge is around one mile
Spencer Creek Bridge constructed of wood and is wide enough for a wheel chair with waist high hand rails

If you have AllTrailsPro on phone and have previously downloaded your trail at home with WI-FI
That can help. Follow the dotted trail lines on AllTrailsPro
Ignore the red trail loop on AllTrailsPro, I never saw it, and the red loop is not used

    AllTrailsPro download map
    West Morris Mountain Campground
    Uwharrie National Forest
    Troy NC

If you see someone at Trailhead who claims to be Tazmaniac *****beware, he has been known to convince good natured campers that he is a hammock camper too….believe what he says at your own peril!!!
