    Cleaning sap from straps

Is there a best practice for this? I read running alcohol or turpentine. Though unsure how modern fibers will like this.

I like hand sanitizer for this - the thicker gel stuff seems to help break up the sap. I haven’t observed any damage to the straps so far.

Rubbing alcohol works fine for me although of late I've just dusted the strap with some talc to eliminate the stickiness and just live with it. It appeals to my laziness.

A post a while back suggested putting the straps in your freezer at home, after they've cooled a bit, the sap is supposed to peel right off.

Got just a little bit of sticky.. Gonna use lighter fluid on the Dutch beetle buckle straps. Always worked on everything else!

I’ve always just left it and it dries up and flakes off. Or just rubbed soil into it. Still held me.

Got on a nasty tree and cut the top off of the compactor bag and made a barrier under the straps. Still got a little on me/us. Zoom on on the right side of the attachment to the tree, We had 2 hammocks hanging via a Dutch spreader bar

Had a wonderous thunderstorm that night at the base of Mt Mitchell that night and slept like babies all 3 of us including the baby puppy.

this is what I have been doing. Though my last hang was on some trees that had some burn damage and they were super pitchy.

I’ll try the freezing trick and see what happens.

    thanks to all.

Turpentine is good. It's essentially distilled pine sap. But once it has hardened, I don't know anything that will dissolve it.
