My wife and I are interested in this! We're from NH, but I work down at Ft. Dix and this happens to be during my weekend. I'll sign up on the sheet. Do we pay when we get there? Or is there a separate site? Also, how do you reserve the site? I don't see Batona Campground on the NJ state park site. The Wharton State forest address seems to be different than the web page I found for Wharton. Please pardon my ignorance. Thanks!

    To answer your questions
1 you can pay at camp no need to reserve a site.we have all but 4 sites already reserved.you can find me when you get into camp.(just ask for Mike or Njredneck)

2 batona camp is in Wharton state forest. The turn for camp is off carranza rd across from the carranza memorial.

There are several campgrounds in Wharton State Forest, but this hang is at Batona Camp.

If you want to rent a site, sites 7 or 8 are the best to get site 6 is right next to the outhouse and not great for hammocks

It's been a while since the last NJ hang, and there are some new folks interested, so here's a quick primer:

Batona Campground is pretty wide open (other than lots of trees). It is divided up into individual sites, but there are no private or secluded sites - just areas with fire rings and cleared ground for tents, marked with site numbers, etc.

We normally try to book either the entire camp, or as much of it as we can, so that:

1.) we don't have to worry about bothering other people who aren't part of the group if we stay up late around the fire, etc.
2.) so that we can spread out and hang wherever we want/need to.

Standard practice is that you don't HAVE to hang at the site that you booked if you don't want to (but you can), and you should plan to have people hang in or around the site that you booked. Basically the idea is that the more sites we-the-group book, that makes it so that everyone can just show up and find some trees that work and not have to worry about muscling in on someone's territory who isn't there for the hang. For example, site 8 and site 9 are right next to the group site ... if someone that isn't there for the hang had those sites, they'd probably be pretty cranky with a crowd of people surrounding them all night long

It's usually preferred that people from in state (NJ residents) book sites if possible, since cost to book is $3 per night for them but $5 for out of state residents. But in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter (unless ALL the sites were booked by out of state people, in which case it could add up quick).

    Hope that helps.

Great. Thank you! I was on the NJ State Park site for it, but I couldn't find the campground in the search function. That makes it easier. I appreciate it!

    I have reserved site 8.
I hope to make the campout.
But I figure best we get it before outsiders.

I missed a few hangouts due to other obligations but now I’m retired!!

    NJ > Fall Hang > Batona camo > Nov 4-6, 2022

I’m bringing a bicycle to ride. I have wanted to ride the Pines and the dirt roads too.

PS the wife is out of the country!!!!
