    NC - Uwharrie Hot Loop 7/29 - 7/30

I have the itch to get out for a quick loop and hang this weekend. Given the hot weather, I am planning on doing just the lower loop of Uwharrie Trail/Dutchman’s Creek starting around noon Fri from the 24/27 Trailhead. Single night out before rain is expected Sat pm. Phantom may join and others are welcome.

As of now I'm a go. Taking Friday off to go torture myself in the heat with y'all. Twistytee, I've talked with Phantom and he said that being the new guy I had to bring donuts and coffee. He also mentioned washing his car but I think he was kidding?

glad to have you on board Oyster. Phantom does like his coffee. He carries a huge mug and has been known to pop instant packets directly into his mouth when there’s no time to brew. He could be serious about a wash and shine, but Phantom’s also been known to tell a yarn or two…

Friday looks like low chance of rain but the heat/humidity will be soupy. Chance of heavy rain Sat afternoon. We should be headed back to cars before it hits. See you Fri at the trailhead lot around noon.

Rolling at 6:30 in the morning to be there on time. If y'all need anything from REI let me know because I'm grabbing a chair from there on the way. Phantom has my number. Oyster out.

I was the new guy last trip with Phantom and was sent to get pizza (which was a 5 mile hike to the car). Call it hammock hazing.

    Have a great time, y'all!

We hiked north on Uwharrie Trail, Walker and Dennis Mountains were much steeper than I remembered.
Many creeks were dry. Fortunately Big Island Creek had a spot of water left.
After crossing Big Island Creek we continued north on trail about a hundred yards and camped where some of us have hammock camped before.
We got 4 hammocks in camp, even though we didn’t need more trees—just up the hill from where we camped are trees for at least two more hammocks.

It was hot. I didn’t attach under quilt until middle of night. There was no need for top quilt.
Gage slept warm enough without quilts, but he had a small blanket if needed.

    I was that guy—again
Phantom ready to hike at 840 am
    Everyone else already ready

Twistytee, Oyster and Gage and me swapped stories, it was 2hot2 lie
I made hot coffee in morning—don’t know why—shoulda tried cold filtered coffee

On way back, we hiked north on Uwharrie Trail to “the crossroads” then went south on Dutchman’s Creek Trail.
    Day one 5 miles
    Day two 7.1 miles

Believe it or not, day two was an easier hike without any Mountains to traverse.

Looking forward to camping with y’all again, when can build a fire
