The best part of living in New York State is the Adirondack Park. A lot of people come to visit the Adirondacks, but it is so massive that it's easy to find a spot where you're not around anybody else. No charge to go there either.
No chiggers. No mountain lions. No wolves. Only black bears and coyotes to worry about, and neither are really an issue. No ticks in the high peaks area either. The only downside is biting insects like mosquitos and black flies.
Fun fact: The Adirondack Park at about 6.1 million acres is larger than Yellowstone (2.2 million acres), Yosemite (0.76 million acres), Glacier (1 million acres), Grand Canyon (1.2 million acres), Great Smokies (.5 million acres) National parks combined.
