    Pfaff Serger

Hello folks, picked up a working Pfaff Hobbylock 796(?) Serger at a yard sale this weekend. Lots of experience with the Singer HD thread injectors, but have you all been using Sergers for any DIYs, and what are some the benefits of using? Appreciate in advance any direction!
.... the Aardvark (earth pig)... a rather unremarkable creature whose sole claim to fame is that it is the first animal listed in the dictionary.

I'm sorry, I don't have anything constructive to add, but following along. My wife has a fairly decent serger, and I've wondered about possible uses for my stuff too.

I think it really comes in handy for sewing seams when making clothing. In the MYOG world they seem to be popular when sewing outdoor materials that stretch like Polartec or the very popular Polartec Alpha. I'm not sure if it would keep the edges on nylon or polyester material from unraveling or not. It might. I know that if you turn a long sleeve t-shirt inside out that most of the seams are serged and that usually cotton or cotton/poly blend.
Might work ok for serging the seams on a Climashield quilt.

I use my serger all the time on projects. Works wonderfully for nylons, mesh, or any fabric. Keeps fabric edges from fraying and wraps everything in a nice bound seam. Stuff sacks, clothing, etc. I just made some nice bug headnets and used the serger for the seams. Nice and neat.

I think I may get my wife's serger out of storage, and get it oiled or whatever it needs. I'm going to try it out. Why not?
