A new twist on a PBH

If you haven’t yet seen or heard of WV’s People’s Bridge Hammock, it’s quite the design. Having had a few bridge hammocks and wanting something a little different, WV was kind enough to hear me out. What resulted was a hybrid bridge hammock that took elements from the PBH design, elements from my current ’Canoe-style’ made by Xtrekker and some of my own thoughts. I give you the PBH a la Syb

That is cool! Lots of little details in that hammock.

One of these days I’ll get around to trying a bridge.

Moving to a bridge hammock - for me - was a huge improvement in the quality of my sleep. The move to this specific bridge hammock helped my sleep further. As always hanging is very individual and once dialed in we know how much better this is than sleeping on hard ground.

All the credit goes to WV. While I had some ideas, he expounded upon them and took creative liberty. Cadillac is an apt term because this thing is all about comfort.

Your mileage may vary of course but a bridge hammock was a game changer for me. Weight penalties (if that’s a concern) are there but for my comfort, I’ll gladly accept those minor inconveniences.

I'm guessing that side sleeping might be difficult(?) Otherwise, this hammock is incredible. Everything but the kitchen sink (and toilet.)

TominMN, that knee ridge looks pretty substantial when the hammock isn't occupied. When someone gets in, the fabric stretches and adapts to the sleeper's shape quite a bit, but not quite the same way a gathered end hammock does. The PBH owes much to Grizz and to Bill Townsend. From Grizz I got the recessed spreader bars, soft shackle tendon attachments, and origami end caps. From Just Bill, the longer spreader bars and wider bed design. Both of those things eliminate most shoulder squeeze and also make side-sleeping pretty easy. Grizz claims that having the foot end lower (beyond the spreader bar) gives him room for his toes when he sleeps on his stomach! I have not duplicated that feat (ouch! - pun), mostly from not trying, but I like having no pressure on my heels when I sleep on my back. It lets my top quilt's foot box insulation expand both up and down, and it doesn't distort the hammock fabric to make thin spots in the underquilt. I think that side-sleeping is often a way of dealing with hyperextended knees caused by too flat a bed. The PBH has gentle curves, like a recliner, to let the back lie flat, with the legs slighly bent and elevated. YMMV.
