How to tell silnylon from PU coated nylon

I have a warbonnet tarp that needs the centre seam sealed but I don’t know if it’s silnylon or PU coated nylon. One of Shug’s videos says “silicone for silnylon and something else for PU coated nylon, and make sure you know which one you have”. How can you tell? I got mine second hand and the seller doesn’t know which one it is.

I've always been under the impression that WB rainfly ridges don't require sealing. I certainly have never sealed mine. I know that when pull-outs are added, it's recommended to seal those but that's it.

If my memory is faulty, I'm sure someone will jump in to correct me.

I'm pretty certain Warbonnet never used a PU coated fabric for their tarps.

I know I go overkill but I always end up sealing my tarp ridgeline seams for peace of mind. I've sealed ones from Dutch, Warbonnet and UGQ all the same. 100% clear silicone mixed with odorless mineral spirits and brush a nice bead on the underside of the ridgeline. It's easy to do with it stretched out upside down on the floor or table.

With PU coating one side looks distinctly different from the other.

On the non-coated side you can see the individual threads in the weave, while the coated side has sort of a 'glazed' appearance.

Additional opinion: I don't like PU coated stuff because frequently it will peel a few years down the line. At least that's my experience.

Thanks. What side is the underside? Mine has what I think is called bias tape running along the middle seam on one side.

That grosgrain is the outside ridge of the fly.

Thanks. Just to be clear, here’s a pic of what I think is the top side of my tarp. Do I have it
    right?

I'd say "yes." Edge/hem of fly rolled under, grosgrain on outside of ridge. The way that ridge seam is sewn is what makes it so watertight. That's why I believe that sealing it is overkill.

BTW, a belated "Happy Canada Day!"
