    Appalachian trail books

Hi everyone it’s been awhile. I just retired from the military and am beginning to plan my wife’s and I AT hike. We’re prolly 2-3 years out but wanted to start getting some good books under my belt to help us with planning and preparing. We’re both die hard hangers and plan to hammock camp it at this point and time. My body doesn’t like sleeping on the ground anymore. Any books anyone would recommend? Thanks I’m advance!

    Appalachian Trials - Zach Davis

Thru-Hiking the Appalachian Trail: 100 Tips, Tricks, Traps, and Facts - Jan Beck Seymour / Greg Seymour

The first two for inspiration, the last two for how-to type reading.

Jennifer Pharr-Davis's books. Start with Becoming Odessya (I probably spelled that incorrectly).
    Blind Courage by Bill Irwin.

If you want some history along the trail, "Walkin' Withe The Ghost Whisperers" by J. R "Model-T" Tate. His journey book is also good, a different read as his "Alter Ego" keeps interjecting. "Walkin' On the Happy Side of Misery"

Should be fun I hope you have a long trip planned. If you make it to Vermont you can try for a night at the Long Trial Inn that is a pretty well known spot up there.

Bill Bryson's a Walk in the Woods. Definitly not a how-to book, but it's entertaining, maybe a bit enlightening, and might have some good ideas about what not to do.
