I dunked my hammock just for better overall coverage. Air dried it in the backyard over a couple of days/nights & was good to go. The smell lingers for a little while, but I didn't find it overpowering & now there's barely a hint.

It worked well during my recent motorcycle trip to VA & back. I camped in state parks going & coming from a BMW rally on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Bugs weren't a bother, especially in MS where it was pretty hot & humid with lots of buzznin going on at night.

However it's applied, it's effective IMO.

I dunk hammock and clothes. 6 oz permethrin 10% to a gallon. Put everything in a 5 gallon bucket and pour in a gallon permethrin diluted. No bugs.

It would be more satisfying if the skeeters burst into flame or screamed when landing on the treated stuff, but they just drop dead instead.

I've done it both ways and usually spray. For dunking if you want to mix up smaller amounts you can use gallon ziploc bags to soak/dunk items rather than a five gallon bucket. I put in a few ounces, toss in some socks or whatever, seal it and then knead the stuff into the fabric by mashing the bag. Remember that sunlight degrades permethrin, so it's best to hang dry your treated items in shade if you can. Inside a garage is ideal.

I did the same and then used a $1 aluminum spray bottle from one of the dollar stores to spray my hammock and clothing. Worked great, love watching giant FL skeeters land on the bug net and drop off dead seconds later.

I ended up spraying mine. The spray bottle I have lays it on pretty heavy. I actually had it dripping off of the hammock and net. Got it hanging in my shop to dry. I have some mix left over and I plan on nuking some ant hills as an experiment.

You are absolutely correct! Here's one I'm reading now.
