My wife and I drove through that exact area looking at sites a day or two before this happened. We didn't stick around due to some tall grass in most of the sites and having seen a tick the day before. We no likey ticks.

Lol, around here if I went home when I saw a tick I'd get to camp about 6 weeks out of the year. Down south, I guess never.

I'm from Western Washington, only seen one tick in 54 years on this side of the mountains. We just weren't willing to set up the tent in tall grass when there was a tick sitting on the first blade of grass I looked at beside my car door. He WAS in a friendly pose waiting for a hug, though

Haha, well you do what you've got to do I suppose. We have so many that I spray on my Deet and do my best to repel them, but even then some get through. I've had two bites this year... no complications, knock wood.

Found this one trying to latch onto me the other day...

The Terminator has been a tick magnet this year. She finds at lest on her every day this year, me none.

The John Rock Hang got cut short due to a bear problem last year. One person who got there on Thursday night got chased off by a bear after he set up, had to leave gear behind. Came back next day to find all his gear shredded. Friday night same bear kept coming into camp looking for food. Not the least bit scare of us yelling ect. Would go back into brush and enter camp from different direction. Had people up all night on bear watch. Hard to get any sleep with all the yelling all night. We all packed up and left early Saturday. Bear was getting with 30 feet of people

I've been out hiking several times in WNY, over several miles each time and in that long grassy stuff and haven't had a single one on me yet.

I must be getting there right after the possum goes through maybe...
Q: Does it get any better than kayak camping?

Glad everyone was ok. The most direct encounter i have had was raccoons touching the hammock on the foot end while sleeping but ended up heeling one in the head and had no further issues.
