    Post Middle aged nerd

Was a decent backpacker back in the day. Haven't done much in years. The idea of sleeping on the ground at my age isn't very appealing. Hammock camping sounds like it could have potential. I want to learn more.

I'll probably try a 'nice' hammock at some point if I can decide which one. I won't be collecting several hammocks (so my wife doesn't kick my ***) so I hope to guess right with my first one.

I'm tall 6'4" and sturdy 240 lbs. Hammock Priorities:

    1. Comfort/fit for my body size
    2. Minimal fiddle factor (stuff just works, hammock and under quilt pared well so I don't have to monkey with it)
    3. Light weight

    Cheers,

    Blinx

This is a great place with very experienced members. I'm new myself and looked into hammocks because of the same reason as you. There will be some seasoned advice coming your way I'm sure. Helped me with my choices. Happy hanging!

My 2cents, you can try a 12 foot gathered end hammock 66 to 70 inches wide.
While you might be ok with a hammock 11x5 feet, I would not recommend any hammocks shorter than 11 feet, due to your height.
A fabric 1.6 or 1.7 will be good. Do not get the 1.1 fabrics—too stretchy for you weight.

    These are all Phantom guesses.

If I got paid to tell lies
It just wouldn’t be as much fun

    Good luck

Talk to the vendors that you're considering ordering from. They will have recommendations on size and fabric, too. They are all very knowledgeable.
    Enjoy!

The Dutchware 12’ netless comes pretty wide, though if you live where there are bugs I’d also recommend getting a summer sock or Fronkey-style net to go with (or Arrowhead Equipment sells a head-end net that you can add on to any netless).

Welcome! I'm trying to get my dad back out camping and think that hammocks are a great path.

That's an admirable goal and he'll certainly prefer it to sleeping on the rocky ground. The PNW has some beautiful areas to get out in.

No one sits around talking about that trip where it was 76 and sunny the whole time.
