    Tried, Tested and TRUE

I wanted to say how absolutely thrilled I am at last year's purchase of a 13' Winter Haven tarp. I have been in some nasty weather before, but during the first paddle of the season last week I found myself in the middle of some severe weather that included a tornado warning. There isn't enough that can be said about the quality of construction, the craftsmanship and pride that goes into every piece of SLD gear. I had the tarp in a fairly tight pitch and was bone dry, but more importantly there was never a moment when I was worried that a seam or tie out point might fail when it mattered the most.

I was always pleased with my WB Superfly, but the Winter Haven is in another league and has absolutely proven itself. If you are looking for bombproof gear, look no further.

    Top shelf.

Did you go with Sil/Poly or Xenon?

I went with the Silpoly XL option -- I've had a few tarps over the years, but this one has to be my absolute favorite.

I've had to hunt for trees that are far enough apart, but once you are all set up you really appreciate the extra space and length on the sides.

+1 for these big tarps from SLD.

I also have a 13ft SilpolyXL winter haven in Robin Egg Blue. I have a 12ft hammock, and I like the extra tarp space for hanging my pack at my head.

This tarp just got me through 2 nasty thunderstorms with 30+ mph winds along a mountain ridge at Grayson Highlands. I cranked it down tight to try and minimize the sound of wind deflecting the fabric. While it’s was noisy with lofting, it was nothing compared to the constant thunder. Everything stayed dry and the tarp looks good as new.
