    Hello from Southwest Germany

Hey yall, I've been living in the Black Forest of Germany since 2013. Born and raised in WA, OR and ID. I miss wild camping form the US and found out that even though wild camping in Germany with tents is not allowed, hammock camping is allowed. So my son and I have started hammocking. Last year was the start of our first overnights. Before that we would just go for day trips. Made our own hammocks and to begin with now we are diving in a bit more.

    Hi,
Welcome. I love Germany and was aware that wild camping was forbidden. However, I didn't know hammocking was allowed! Are there any restrictions?

My understanding is that you can only stay in a spot for one night. Meaning that you can camp multiple nights but in a different location each night. No fires. Wild camping in tents is not allowed. A definition of a tent is anything that has poles. I just look for a spot off the trail or road that is not easy to find or see and hang there. I don't have burnt orange gear so I don't make myself obvious so I don't go camping during hunting season ;-)

Welcome. Very cool, I did not know that little loophole. I wasn't a hammocker when I was in Germany, so didn't do much camping.

No one sits around talking about that trip where it was 76 and sunny the whole time.

Welcome! Interesting how they define a tent. If you had just a tarp and cordage tied between to trees...you'd be ok? Because technically, they could argue the trees are the poles.
