First of all, welcome to HF. I’m the same height as you although a bit lighter. I also live in NC and I switched to hammock camping from tents last year. Very happy with the switch.

If your budget allows your plan to work I say go for it. I have a single layer 11’ SLD Trail Lair treated with permethrin and mosquitos aren’t an issue using my 40 degree partial UQ. 20 degree quilts are a good “one set for most seasons” approach to hammocking here, but my 40 degree set sees far more use. As others here already mentioned, you’re likely to tweak your set-up over time but starting with Warbonnet gear and the upcoming sale sounds like a a good plan. All these cottage vendors make top notch stuff, so if you try something and it’s not quite right for you it won’t take long to pass it along to a new home.

Welcome from Durham. I’m a big dude at 6’4” and 260lbs, and I use a symmetrical single layer Hexon 1.6 for my main backpacking hammock. But I like it a bit longer at 12ft.

I tend to camp more in fall and winter when the bugs aren’t an issue, but I do spray permethrin on my hammock and bottom entry bug net for when I’m warm season camping.

I’m left handed, and I also tend to lay head left. But it also depends on the view out the hammock - I’ll switch to head right if the view out that side is nice. Falling asleep and waking to a nice view is one of the many perks of hammocks! As you experiment, you’ll find what works best for you.

welcome to the madness from the extreme western tip of NC. Lots of places to hang in NC. While NC State Parks that allow camping also allow hammocks, not all are hammock friendly in that some lack suitable trees for hanging.

You should also look at getting a 20 degree UQ as it gives you more options.
Once you get your gear start practicing setting it up. Also practice setting up in the dark.

Will do. Plan is to get a wooki down the road for colder months. Spreading out the money spending so to speak.

Hey Oyster, welcome from Charlotte. Sounds like you made some fine choices. My opinion, don't be too concerned with getting all your decisions right the first time. Like most of us, you're kit will likely evolve over time. You've got some great gear on it's way to you. Get out as much as you can and also consider doing some shake-down trips as well (sleep in your backyard or whatever options you have). The more you use your gear the better you'll understand it and the better you'll know what works for you. Good luck
