Do we have any dates yet lol ?
Do we have any dates yet lol ?
Not all those who wander are lost
Not yet Tom Tom, no dates yet
I’ll use Weather Bug app on Sunday evening
If ten day forecast for Troy says no rain for upcoming Saturday and Sunday, then I’ll post that date.
I know it’s not exactly the way Daniel Boone did it, but a lot of people don’t know this
On rainy Saturdays, Daniel Boone would go to double feature movie matinee with his Indian friends. They’d watch a Tarzan movie, a Three Stooges short film and then catch the latest WC Fields feature length film while staying high and dry, munching popcorn, pizza and candy bars!
There are few of us, I might also contact you all with private message on Hammock Forums…if I don’t forget.
If it rains a bit, then your really camping
Some hammock campers will elect to stay at Yates both Friday and Saturday nights.
When we get back from figure8 loop, we will share pix and stories only following the general framework of facts and sequence.
I went to Doctor office and it’s worse than I thought.
I’ve been diagnosed with a bad case of Cabin Fever.
The Doctor and Nurse were alarmed at my vast expanse of pale flesh. They said “Phantom gettchur carcass out in Uwharries B4 it’s 2 late”
As of now, I’m hiking in Uwharries both first and second weekends of June 2022
On first weekend, I’ll get there on Saturday morning around 800am! And begin backpacking trek at 900am Saturday June 4, hike Dutchman’s Creek Uwharrie Trail figure8 loop. Starting from Yates Place Campground. Will camp Saturday night and return Sunday afternoon.
This is figure8 loop is abbreviated so we can easily finish in two days. Keyauwee Trail forms the shortcut!
On second weekend of June, when most of us are going, I will arrive Friday June 10 and camp Friday night at Yates Place Campground in Troy NC
Will wake up Saturday June 11 morning and drink a small cup of coffee, and have a light breakfast snack.
Then at 900am Saturday June 11 we will begin our backpacking trek, of Dutchman’s Creek Uwharrie Trail figure8 loop.
Might not follow exact route in first post.
Slightly longer route gives a chance at larger campsites near larger creeks.
Or follow route shown in first post—a shorter distance because of less backtracking…but campsites are at smaller creeks.
Both work, we might decide at last minute depending on group size.
There is no guarantee of getting any of larger campsites, if another group is already camped, then depending on our group size, we might have to hike onwards to next available campsite.
If our group is small, then it will be easier to camp anywhere, there is a stream nearby.
See y’all then either first or second weekend of June or both weekends

Man this is gonna be a close one for me this time. I'm ordering gear tonight. I'll make the next one though if possible. Phantom, how long is the hike you're describing? I know nothing of the area.
I'm walking everyday with my pack trying to get my knees ready and a tough hike might put me in the rear with the gear.

Raladd, should be a good trip
Oyster, it’s Saturday and Sunday, maybe 15 miles total. About 7 or 8 miles each day.
Google maps
Yates Place Campground, Troy NC 27371
Or Yates street address is
700 Dusty Level Road, Troy NC 27371
We will meet and park at Yates Place
While there is not much water in immediate area of Yates Place, there is plenty of water along trails we will be backpacking. And we will camp at or very near a stream or larger creek Saturday night.
Maybe always good to carry one bottle of water, but no need to carry large amounts of water this trip.

I would love to join, but gonna be house training my new hiking partner these next couple months. overnights will probably be restricted to the backyard.
"Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters.”

MrPickl, when your new hiking partner gets you trained, join us for coffee and hang time.
