    SuperFly seam sealer

Hi gang. I bought a 13’ SuperFly to use with my Ridge Runner and just opened the package to test it out and seal the seams. Apparently it doesn’t have that done already? Anyway, there is no sealer in the package, and no instructions. What exactly do I have to go buy to do this? This is a rare day off for me so I really want to take care of it today.

    Thanks for your help

Although I've never used it myself, the hive says go get a tube of 100% silicone, some mineral spirits, and a couple acid brushes at your hardware store. Thin the silicone down to the consistency of Elmer's glue and 'paint' the newly created sealant over the seams you want to seal. You can find YT videos on sealing the Warbonnet tie outs.

I have a leftover tube that came with my last WB tarp. It just says 100% silicone sealer. It's pretty thick, you just smear it onto the pullouts. The ridgeline doesn't need it...but I would test it for leaks.

The ridgeline on a Warbonnet tarp does not really require seam sealer due to the way it is sewn. But...I always seam seal mine anyways. A drip can truly taint a trip. BUT be sure to seam seal the side pullouts. Normally Warbonnet includes a small tube of seam sealer with their tarps. Reach out to them.
Also make sure to get the proper seam sealer for silnylon/silpoly.

I use Permatex Flowable Silicone Windshield Sealant available at AutoZone and other auto shops. It is useable directly from the tube and does a great job.

I only seam sealed the pull-outs on my Superfly and I used the tube that was included. However, I used/use the Permatex Flowable Silicone on my other tarps.

I ran up to the local hardware store and got the only tube of 100% silicone sealant they had, but when I got home I saw it's a glue. That can't be what I want, is it? (I really need to bring my glasses with me everywhere these days). I did contact Warbonnet and Adrian is going to send me a repair kit, so I should be good regardless.

If I may belabor this topic, after doing the actual sealing of the pull-outs I understand I need to let it dry for 6 to 8 hours. Does this mean I should rig the tarp as if I were camping? Just letting it dry on a table or such won't work? Are there other options for space & time limited folk?

I genuinely appreciate your patience with me in answering these questions.

    Definitely not glue!

I did mine one section at a time, over a 2 day period in my home office. The fumes weren't that bad, if there were any at all. You don't have to go to crazy with it...you just gotta do the threads that are sewn through the pullout and tarp. Lift up the tabby end and treat the threads there (around the 1:46 mark on the video I posted). Wipe off the excess, and let it dry for about 4 hours.
