    Fitting UQ to Banyan

Hi all! Part of my hope with the Banyan was that I would be able to plug and play the UGQ Zeppelin with it; however, I’m getting sizable air gaps along the sides. After speaking with UGQ, it’s clear that the width of the Zeppelin doesn’t really allow for a proper fitting on the bridge style.

    1. With funds being limited, does anyone have suggestions to better marry these two and eliminate the side gaps?

    2. One day, when funds are plentiful again, it looks like the only companies that currently produce a bridge specific UQ are WB and Loco Libre. Do any of you have either of those UQs, paired with the Banyan? If so, how’s the fit?

Thank you for your help and time!

Another option to consider is the Ridge Creek XL underquilt from Arrowhead Equipment. It's insulation is synthetic - not down - but I'll be trying it out with the Banyan when it arrives later this week.

I’d love to hear your follow up on that! I didn’t consider AHE, because they made a point of noting on their website that the Ridge Creek is not meant to pair with the Banyan. I have an AHE UQ for an old Hennessy, and while my preference is for down, I would consider it If the fit was right.

Some folks have better luck with a 3/4 length UQ if you happen to have one. you can then use a piece of foam at the foot end.

After that- Hopefully nobody minds this 'cross vendor' post

While it won't solve every problem for you- this (and another two if the first works) is a quick video about how to fit standard underquilts to my bridges. Granted- the design is very different but the point of sharing is to pass along two items that may help you.

The 'pick me up' works well with the zepplin. Not sure exactly how it would play with the double ridgeline but the concept is simple... use shock cords to give you some lift and help seal up the center of the UQ so it can wrap around the bridge.

The second are the prussic loops I put on the ridgeline at the ends about a foot in. These function similar to a 'triangle thingy' and help pick up the UQ ends a bit better.

They can be used in combinations to work things out better.

Probably the best tip for using a standard UQ though- FORGET THAT IT"S A BRIDGE!
If you don't have a ridgerunner quilt that is designed to clip to the hardware at the corners... you can't just clip a regular quilt to the corners and hope for the best.
Just set the bridge up- then attach the quilt in the same way you'd do it if it was a gathered end. Ignore the corners and just try to get the quilt to wrap the bridge itself.

If it's looking sketchy- protect your quilt from the hardware and pole tips while you work it out.

As mentioned- some folks have used the JRB quilt- but if you are putting more money into things- might as well invest it into a specific quilt.

Hey Just Bill! Thank you for that video. I believe you had it posted somewhere else on the forum, and I couldn’t find it again. I was wanting to go back to it, but I appreciate you posting it again here and saving me some of the legwork!

These tips are great ideas, and the Zepplin has various hooks already on either side where the pick-me-up could be attached. I also appreciate the idea of treating it like a regular gathered end set up. Not sure how it would go with the dual ridgeline‘s, but I could always add a completely separate line above the hammock and above the suspension that I could attach a pick-me up-to, or if I run my tarp ridgeline under the tarp that could possibly work as well. These are great tips, and can help me in the interim. Thank you so much!

You can see me fit a partial UQ on a Ridge Runner. Same basic idea.

I have both a banyan and Ridge creek from AHE, I'll try to test out the fit tomorrow and post pictures.

Fits just fine. I'll still have to take it out this weekend to try it out overnight, but I'd say there's no point of me getting a different UQ for the Banyan. And yes, both are camo patterns- just not the same one.
