NC Uwharries April Fools Hang April 1 2 3 2022

Park at Yates Place Camp and backpack in to our campsite.
It is short miles, about an hour and a half hike.
We will be camped by a creek with plenty of water.

Bring all your own food. If you want a campfire, you can gather firewood at camp. But it’s slim pickings, until you get 50 to 100 yards from camp. Please observe all forestry rules on firewood.

    We have camped here before.

From Yates, gravel road in camp, go past metal gate, go 50 yards, take spur trail to the end (about five minutes) Take a left onto Uwharrie Trail going south

Follow Uwharrie Trail south about 30 minutes.
Turn right at Dutchman’s Creek Trail
Follow Dutchman’s Creek Trail about 45 minutes.
You will step across in a step or two some smaller streams.

Our campsite is where Dutchman’s Creek Trail and Dutchman’s Creek cross each other three times in rapid succession.

It is possible to skip crossing Dutchman’s Creek, if you stay on same side of Dutchman’s Creek along the bank. Hiking poles might help keep you from falling in Dutchman’s Creek.
Beech Camp is 100 yards along the creek at the second or middle creek crossing.

Also there is another description of directions in post #9
I call it Beech Camp (not named anything on maps) because campsite has so many beech trees—great for hanging. Beech trees are the kind some people carve their names in the bark. I don’t recommend any name carving on trees.

This is low key, laid back camping.

If you are late to the party, Saturday? Might be good to call or text us or send private message to confirm our location.

Would like to, but I'm saving time for the kids' spring break later in the month.
A day camping in the rain is better than a good day at work,

NC Uwharries April Fools Hang April 1 2 3 2022

Cliff, Yates and Uwharries calling you!
    No certain time
One group will arrive at Yates just after lunch.
Stand around and talk a bit and then begin backpacking.
That way we can get there and set up without being in a rush.

Another group (my guess) will get to Yates later in afternoon and begin trekking around 500. Still get there before dark and set up at or around sunset.

And some will arrive later (the story of my life) and will camp overnight at Yates. Get up early EARLY! And trek in Saturday morning.

If you are not hiking in with a group, good thing to call and or text us. To refresh directions.

We will camp at Beech Camp.

From Yates, take spur trail (its 50 yards past that gate) Follow spur trail for five minutes

It will Tbone into Uwharrie Trail, turn left going south on Uwharrie Trail

After about 30 minutes, turn right onto Dutchman’s Creek Trail (all turns are well marked with signs)

Follow Dutchman’s Creek Trail 30 to 45 minutes.
You will step across several small streams. One or two steps on the way.

Then you will get to where Dutchman’s Creek Trail crosses Dutchman’s Creek three times in rapid succession.
Beech Camp is there, as soon as you cross Dutchman’s Creek the second time.

You can cheat and not cross Dutchman’s Creek by following the creek bank about a hundred yards. Then magically you will be at Beech Camp, without crossing Dutchman’s Creek at all.!

Good to have some hiking poles for balance either for crossing the creek or walking along the near bank.

AllTrails Pro and maybe AllTrails apps will show those trails
Type in Uwharrie Trail Dutchman’s Creek Trail figure8 loop, Troy NC. Or something like that.

It can show you your way.
Also, first time in, best to hike with a group.
There will probably be three groups starting from Yates, at different times.

    Aaaaaaaiiiiiight!
