The passing of HF member, MarkGlist.

The hangers in Illinois and Wisconsin said goodbye to our hammock camping buddy, Mark, today. He died of a heart attack while sleeping at the age of 63.

He was one of the biggest Chicago Bears fans and was the inspiration behind the infamous Packer/Bear hang of 2016.

    Obit here: https://www.rjmodellfh.com/obituary/mark-glista...

Mark was well-known for his camp cooking. Saturday morning breakfasts of sausage & gravy over biscuits were one of his chef calling cards.

He was one of our turkey deep-fryers for our annual SprinterGiving hang.

Mark was a regular attendee of the Windy City Hangers Annual Winter Hang, any Da Shack hang, SprinterGiving, and any hang at the I&M canal.

We will remember your love of food, cast iron, and new hammock gear. The loss of you creates a hole in our hearts which we will need to fill with much sausage & gravy to make any of this "bear"-able. Thanks for all the good times!

Mark was really welcoming during one of my first group hang outings when I lived around Chicago. Really made me feel at-home in the community and he brought some really tasty food that he shared too. Thanks Mark, that meant a lot.

Mark was an incredible guy. Great Tribute from Karla. About the only thing I would add is that he had the most distinctive laugh. Big belly laugh that would remind you almost of Santa Claus with a Chicago accent!

That really sucks. Last I saw him he had lost some weight and seemed to be doing really well...

Mark is the first forum member I had the pleasure of meeting in person... out on the I&M with my son backpacking I happened to run into him as he was packing up after his latest group hang.
Group hangs weren't really my thing at the time, but his friendly nature encouraged me to give it a shot.
Along with Garrett and Neil he got many of us in the chicago area together, and just as importantly he made nice with the park rangers so that we could keep getting together.
I think most of us in the area are connected in some way through Mark and I'm thankful for that. I even got to meet my bridge hero Grizz when he came up to visit us at the I&M.
Mark was kind enough to come up to me privately and say some nice words on the meeting- he seemed to do good job of catching stuff like that and letting you know.

While I would be doing Dogger a disservice to claim Mark has the best laugh in the midwest.... Mark's laugh was distinctly enjoyable.

Even though he'd have politely declined the adult beverages- Hopefully when next we all get together, we can share a good meal and raise a glass to Mark.
