    New Haven Hammock, Safari

I just saw this pop up in my news feed and didn't see it here, looks like a new Haven Hammock.

    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...e-hammock-tent

Looks like it's a heavier model more robust so some wont like it, seems more car camper than backpacking.

    New features
    Suede on the mat
A pull on the head end to lift your head in lounge mode, I guess amockish
    I think it's a bit bigger
    New colors
And I think is has more pockets inside

Can't wait to see the Chinese ripoffs that will popup, using Haven's own photos.

they're definitely trying to hit the car camping crowd

not gonna lie, I'm definitely considering a haven for the wife, for when we're camping with our little trailer. she loves the Amok, but HATES getting in and out of it

Took a while to scroll to find the near 12lbs weight. Suitable for car camping and for those who learned to hike before the UL era With a waterproof body and tarp, it’s essentially a hanging single wall tent.

If you are car camping and you end up at a hammock unfriendly site, you have a tent. If you have available trees, you have a hammock. One add-on option is a small USB chargeable pump for the large (80 x 30) air mattress. I don’t know … maybe a “come-along” - one of those ratchet gadgets used to tighten fence line - would be another option to get this 12 lbs bear hitched to a tree. At a pack size of 20 x 10 x 8 I could easily fit it in my kayak - my paddling partner might prefer it to the RR - and as a bonus, I would not need an extra water bag as keel ballast.

You certainly can’t fault this beast for being trail unfriendly when they tell you up front that the original Haven (and XL) are designed for the trail (at half the weight of the Safari). They state up front that it’s designed for car camping, back yard (short carry), or “glam” base camp (transport: snow pulk, sherpa, teenagers). As sturdy as it’s supposed to be, I’d still use a ground sheet under it - a “protect my gear” habit.

But yeah, for car camping with ground or suspention potential, this is a contender.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

I ordered mine (got in on the early bird) and completed the end-of-campaign survey to pick the color of the Haven & tarp. Now just waiting for May/June delivery!
