Overall, it seems like symmetrical hammock builds are generally more comfortable for many (if not most) people. The sweet spot of width, based on what I have seen, appears to be somewhere between 62”-68”. It is all entirely subjective, of course.

Symmetrical wide hammocks seem preferable to maximize comfort, whereas asymmetrical narrower hammocks are for those who know exactly what they need (optimal sleeping position, less floppy fabric, lighter weight). The difference in weight “savings” between narrower asymmetrical hammock and symmetrical wide is not exactly a back-breaker…but less fabric and material would keep things more simple, less bulk.

For more comfort, a wide symmetrical hammock is probably a good place to start (+tie outs for the extra fabric).

I'm 6'3", 240. I got a Dutchware Chameleon regular width and I have absolutely no problems at all. If I had to do it over, I'd get the wide. Just in case I get fatter!

I always like going SOBO; somehow, it feels like going downhill.

...and as it harm none, do what ye will.

this may have pushed me to the chameleon wide. No idea if I'd prefer a 12' or be okay with 11'. I'm an inch taller and about the same weight. I'm torn between the chameleon, the blackbird xcl, and the sparrow.

Those three are arguably the most popular choices these days. I think it really comes down to what features/options you want.
