First, its not a form of a mattress, its something completely different, so it takes time to learn how to like this form of sleep. You may or may not get good sleep the first night, but you probably get a good idea of the potential for the hammock as it relates to you.

Second, you might not get a good sleep because of sounds and the open-ness of the hammock. Embrace the open-ness, hang the tarp high and in porch mode so you can see out. When you hear something, look around and become confident there's nothing there. THAT will help you sleep (eventually).

    Maybe.

And those glowing spots in the brush are just reflections from the moonlight on water droplets.
    Maybe.

What about that story where the hammock camper got so nervous she quickly packed her gear away in the middle of the night and drove home. And when she was sorting things out the the next day, she found a hook in her daisy chain suspension.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
