    3 season quilt.

Shopping for a 3 season quit. I’ve narrowed it down to 30 or 40 degree temperature rating with 950fp down. I have a 0 degree and 40 degree TQ to go along with it. I’d like to get some thoughts from the forum on a sweet spot UQ temperature rating for 3 season.

How tall are you? Because a lot of folks under 6 ft can get almost full coverage with a partial.

Me, I'd go with a 30F full length UQ and pair it with the 40F. You can always wear more clothes to get lower than the 40F rating.

For the 0F TQ, I'd get a 0F (at least) full length UQ.

If you've got a 0 and a 40, then the only logical choice is a 20* quilt. I've personally found that my 20* HG Phoenix 3/4 UQ (and my 20* HG Burrow) are the quilts I use most often.

I'm a proponent of the 10* buffer rule, so my quilts are always rated at least 10* warmer than the expected lows. So if the temps are expected to be 40* F, I'm not bringing my 40* quilts - I'm bringing my 20* quilts.

This rule doesn't always work out that well, but most of the time it does. For example, one night I went camping and the expected low was 18* F. However, the actual low was -3* F. Luckily, I brought my 0* quilts and my 20* quilts and stacked them so I was toasty.

I’m 5’9”. I’m for sure going with a full length. I have a 0 degree Zeppelin to go along with my 0 degree TrailHeadz etherol. HG is running 15% off right. I’m thinking a 30 degree, 950fp incubator.

Interesting, the HG Incubator 850FP price difference between the 20F and 30F is only $10. The 950FP is $30.

I’d think you’d want a 20* quilt if not 0*. I figure you can always vent a too warm top quilt. But an under quilt you want as much downside protection as possible. if your quilt is too warm you probably aren’t going to mind it (and you can vent an uq too).

My 3 season gear is all 20 degree as well. I am a cold sleeper and like SilvrSurfr mentioned I tend to keep my ratings 10 degrees on the comfort side as well.

Where will you be mostly hiking? That to me would be the biggest factor in which temp rating you went for. Will you be at higher elevations in the mountains? Hot and humid SE part of the country?

Personally for me in the midwest my 45F is my summer set of quilts, and my 20Fs are my fall quilts.
