Hammock Gear Standard DCF with doors over a Warbonnet Ridgerunner?

Does anyone frequently camp with a Warbonnet Ridgerunner, using a Hammock Gear 12' DCF (standard with doors) tarp?

Are there any problems I should know about? I'm planning on some pretty long miles, and I really only get a good nights sleep in a WBRR. Would love to save some weight with a Dyneema tarp.

    I usually use a 13' Thunderfly.

I used to own a 12' HG DCF w/ doors, and while I liked the tarp, I felt it was lacking in width. I'm sure you could "make it work" with the Ridgerunner, but I would probably prefer a much wider tarp, like the HG Palace- if you're dead set on DCF.

This is what I was wondering, thank you.

I agree that you CAN make it work. I have the 12' standard tarp with doors in camo and a WBRR, and as long as you have the tips of the spreader bars covered (aftermarket add-on), you should be fine, In this photo, I even have the doors closed on the tarp.

OP, I assume you want the full doors over the WB Thunderfly beaks right? Because if it's side coverage...they are both the about the same (103" WB vs 102" HG)

I used an 11' Standard w/doors for my last section hike. It worked fine. I just ordered a Palace for the extra side coverage. Not necessarily for the coverage of the hammock, but when it rains and I'm piddling around under the tarp, my butt ends up outside the tarp and gets wet... Also extra room under there in general when it's raining. More space to sit and cook/farkle etc. Still going 11' though.

I used my RR and a HG palace 12' on the JMT last year (changed over from a 13' Superfly). The palace is actually wider than the Superfly and I felt like 12' gave plenty of coverage. No matter what tarp I am using I always feel like there is never quite enough space under it for me and my RR for a lot of futzing. There was one wet day where I had one side up in porch mode. Had my dinner under the tarp and then two fellow hikers with very small tents came over and did their dinner under the tarp while I got nice and warm in the RR. I would definitely get your spreader bar tips covered though. If you have the older version RR and don't want to convert for the buttons I use the arrowhead covers.

Hey all - I went on a camping trip and missed all the additional replies! Thanks very much for the extra information. I think i'm going to go for it on the 12' HG palace. I'll order the buttons too. What a great gang. Thanks folks!

Excellent choice- you will be very pleased with that combination !
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.
