ViDEO: Solo Minus 31ºF...Frigid Foray in a Hammock BWCA

It was looking quite bitterly cold up in Northern Minnesota. Yeah, that is the word they use around here. Bitter, Bitterly.
So Bitter is my calling card. I packed the pulk and headed up for a 2 night solo in the Boundary Water Wilderness Area out of Ely, Minnesota.
I felt at peace and this trip was the most fun I've had in a while with myself. Crackin' cold bitterly cold temps. Sunny. Blue skies. Clear nights. Deep snow.
Lotta work Winter camping. Always something to do or to chop or eat or change out of or into or set up or melt and scoop and tweak and gather and saw and thaw and pump and light and then sleep right.
My joy is doing this in a hammock with only my down to keep that heat in me.

Impressive chopping skills. Sector seven at 30 below is the place to be as long as it is not windy. Have you been in contact with the Maple King lately?

When I come out not bleeding I'm happy. I talk with Hickery a lot. And the Maple King, wink, wink.We just have not been able to get our schedules to line up for a long trip. Spring for sure.

Shug this video was a delight! One of my favorite trip report video's of yours. The enthusiasm to get outside and into the woods is infectious. Those clear, sunny, cracking cold days where its calm and the whole landscape is glittering are some of my favorites.

The more you talk up the Superior hammock the more inclined I am to buy one for winter use myself and for 3 season use by my wife.

Cant wait to get up to the BWCA myself later this year! Going to make it up to the west end of the Border Route Trail to help out with trail maintenance in early May.

It was my favorite trip in a long time. Enjoyed filming and editing too. Much easier to film on a solo. Though I do have to do all the work.
So nice to crawl in to sleep with no fuss and know I'm going to be warm underneath.

Thankee. We live where Winter drags on and I start to resent it. So have to find ways to see the joy in Winter. Like snow camping and ice skating and sledding.

It was my most favorite trip in quite a while.
I needed to be in some true Winter woods. In my hammock. It was very peaceful.

What happened to the silky saw? What saw did you use? Just curious. When I was looking for a camp saw a few years ago, I almost bought a Silky, then I winter camped with a friend and used his Bob Dustrude (like your young friend had a few weeks ago). I always wonder if I made the right choice, so I'm wondering where your Silky is.

Thanks for the great video, -30° is a bit much but your enthusiasm is infectious! Laurie and I are hoping to double or even triple the number of camping trips this year. To inspire us we've been watching your entire catalog, or almost every video lol there are alot.

Ps: we love how you keep calling Bean your daughters dog when you have clearly become attached to him, and he you.
