Stacking pads in Amok Draumr 3.0

I got a steal on a used Draumr that comes with the Fjol 3 season pad: R value of 3 to 25*. I'm headed out for some overnight lows of about 15-20*. Anyone stack a foam pad with one of these? I figure a 1/2" foam pad on top won't affect structure but add a few degrees but I've never slept in it. I also have some older thermarest guidelight pads but I figured stacking inflated pads wouldn't make any sense.

    thanks!

That'll work for sure. Be warm!
    Just lay it on top.

In winter I always just added a thick wool blanket to mine, especially since I want a bit more width for the shoulders.

a 2nd pad would also likely work just fine

Thanks Shug and Tikker. I ended up going all in and laying an uninflated Exped Deepsleep MW 7.5 just on top as it was too tight to try and fit in the sleeve. Then being extra curious I rigged up my Eno Blaze 30* UQ just to see if I could. Here's the results.

neat, that actually looks like it fit on not too badly

I fiddled with sliding a whole sleeping bag over the footbox, but it was such a pain to get in and out, I quickly abandoned that idea

Thanks Tikker. I think an UQ could be made pretty easy but then again a good winter pad is easier. I'm still curious about the wings though for side sleepers that spill out past the 25". One cold spot on the knees is enough to wake me up.

I know that this post might "out" me as a ground dweller at times, but one thing that the design of the Amok doesn't allow for is putting straps around the pad to hold your TQ in place (which a lot of TQ's come with). I have a Western Mountaineering Astralite, and have been thinking about how to mod the Draumr to allow for my pad strap attachment points to attach to the hammock. I'm betting that I could sew a small 3/4" grosgrain loop onto the hammock and attach one side of a buckle on it. I also wonder whether cutting a small piece of CCF pad to fit in the wing area might help with the issue you're experiencing.

I did just that. Cut 2 pieces of CCF pad to slip under straps to go under my upper arms in cold.
But I use my Amok as more a fair-weather hammock anyway. I do love the chair mode feature.

I thought about the TQ straps too. Seems a pad strap buckle in the seam where the pad sleeve meets the wing would be a nice feature. Probably not hard to sew one in.

iceman i'm an occasional ground dweller myself especially when the kids are involved. I'm still getting my air slumber dialed in.

Heck, even on my back my arms don’t stay on the pad / want to lay on the wings (Big and tall guy here). The advice I was given for this was to use a sleeping bag instead of a standard top quilt. (I was imagining some kind of UQ for the wings… I suppose overall the sleeping bag is a simpler option. (it did give me an excuse to order an Outlaw Hybrid from UGQ, hahaha… I seriously have a quilt addiction.)

Also— I’m impressed with how you rigged up that UQ under the Draumr!
