I use a 2’ x 3’ piece of Tyvek. I stitched some loops of grosgrain ribbon to the corners so I can stake it down if I want to.

As others have shared, it is nice as a clean, dry place to step when getting into or out of the hammock.

One thing I don’t see mentioned: it is extremely helpful for keeping track of any gear I take out of my pack (or bin when car camping). Things don’t get lost on that white field as easily as they do in leaf litter - especially at night.

2' x 3' piece of an old tent rain fly. It's seen many many miles.

I find I don't need a doormat, however a piece of 0.75mil polycryo, about 3'x5', is very handy when unpacking the backpack or when putting the backpack under the hammock when the ground is wet and/or muddy.

There's also the heavier 1.5mil version, but I've been using the same sheet of 0.75mil for years and got only one small puncture, fixed easily with a piece of packing tape. Weighs 21.9g and rolls up tiny.

I agree with Cmoulder on the polycryo groundsheet- with one exception. Don't use it on snow-slippery as heck. Don't ask me how I know this.

I use a DCF rain skirt as my unpacking mat. Always lay the outside down.

I bought a shower curtain liner from the dollar store about 5 years ago and cut it into 4 equal pieces. I'm still on the first one. No idea what it weighs, but can't be more than a few ounces.

Since I always carry a folding sit pad anyway, I just place it under my hammock at night. I hold it down with my boots in a dyneema waterproof bag or just put a couple of Ti shepherd stakes in the corners to pin it to the ground.

Polycro. Can also be used to seal a sucking chest wound!
