    Hanging in New Hampshire

    Hi all,
I've been hammock camping since about '03-ish when I picked up a signed copy of Ed Speer's book. I only recently stumbled onto this incredible compendium of knowledge and after making a Turtledog stand I decided I should register here. This place is amazing!

My first hammock was a symmetrical Hennessey Backpacker, then an Asym Backpacker and those two, my first and only, are still going strong. I like winter camping in New England and have a couple of DIY underquilts that I use in conjunction with pads as necessary and use my ancient sleeping bags as top quilts. Cut off the bug netting long ago.

Heading out this weekend to the Berkshires with about 10 guys for some winter camping, only one other of whom will be hanging in a hammock.

    Anyway, glad to be here!

Welcome to the forum OG! Lots of great places to hang in New Hampshire and lots of great HF members too!

    Best to you!
There is a skinny healthy guy inside me screaming to get out, but I can usually shut him up with a dozen Boston Creams from Dunkin Donuts.

Welcome! You took the long way around to get here-we're glad you stopped in. You have a treasure if you have a signed copy of Speer's book. Things have changed a little, but the basics still stand. Have fun in the Berkshires-drop some pictures in if you can.

Welcome to the forum! What are your thoughts about sym vs asym? Do you find one to be your go-to more often?

In the spirit of "pictures or it didn't happen," here's some of the book:

Yeah, I definitely lay flatter in the asym. I can just lay at more of an angle. I get a bit of calf ridge in the sym that pretty much disappears in the asym. But they're both so much more comfortable than sleeping on the ground!
