CA > SoCal Hangers > Cleveland NF > May 18-22, 2022 > Fools of May Hang VIII!!

Reservations for the SoCal Hangers 2022 Hang have been made: May 18-22, 2022

We've rescheduled and postponed a few times but unless some new crazy variant comes along I think we are looking good for May.

Please RSVP on the Facebook group or below if you are not on Facebook.

While this will be a reunion hang for many of us, we'd also love to see some new faces. I understand it can be a bit daunting to see just how handsome I am in real life. So the more dilution we have, the better.

I CAN'T EXPLAIN HOW EXCITED I AM TO FINALLY SEE YOU ALL AGAIN, EVEN RYAN!

The Ballad of the SoCal Hangers

“Someone’s gonna throw a couple dozen logs on the fire. (Hey Pedro!)
Someone's gonna get bleary-eyed and strange. (But not that strange!)
I can’t believe my luck, it smells like someone punched a skunk
It’s just another old fashioned SoCal Hangers Hang
Let's get some sheets between the trees
Car camping's easier on the knees
But harder on the liver, so they say.
Oh me, oh me, oh my
Let’s eat some Toxic Granny Apple Pie
It’s just another old fashioned SoCal Hangers Hang!"

We'll have a potluck Saturday night, hiking, games and a clinic or two TBA. PLEASE let me know if you are interested in leading any classes or activities. It would be great if someone coordinated a tournament bracket for horse shoes or some other leisure sport

If you have a hammock stand please bring it. We haven’t had to use them yet but I’d rather have them and not need them than the other way around.

Falcon Group campground is off the Ortega Highway in the mountains just west of Lake Elsinore. The campground is removed from the city, and is close enough to civilization in case we need supplies. There is water (non-potable) and vault toilets present.

On the off chance we run out of parking spaces we can park just outside of the entrance with a wilderness pass available at the small store just before you turn off of The Ortega Highway (74). I’ll grab a few extra Wilderness Passes for any vehicles that need to be kept at the entrance. If we run out of trees we can use the adjacent Blue Jay Campground for overflow but I think if we’re all willing to make it work and spread out we will be fine. Trees at the group site are first-come, first-served.

    CONFIRMATION AND COSTS

I'll go through the records to make sure I know everybody who has paid so far and post the running list as more people confirm.

Please confirm if you are going ASAP for planning purposes As we get closer I will be posting updated lists of attendees.

Make sure to include your name and you HammockForums User Name if you have one. We covered the site up front so any help in this regard is appreciated. If you don’t pay in advance, please remember to bring cash with you! Either way, confirm below.

Cost is $30 per adult ($15 per 17 and under)
This cost is the same whether you stay one night or three. Think of it as a “Cost of Admission”
Any overage will go towards reserving the site for next year so we don’t have to go so deep out of pocket for it.

Please send your fees via PayPal to:

    paypal.me/WillieCash

As we get closer to the event I will post more information (directions, what to bring, etc...)

I hope you are looking forward to it as much as I am!

Activity tends to kick up much more often on the Facebook group.

Is there anybody not in the FB group but that IS a HF member planning on attending?

We are hoping to. The last one was timed perfect for us being in Cali on a vending trip, not sure about this one yet as we don't have the vending calendar filled in that far ahead yet.
Oh, and definitely not on fakebook.

    I'd like to!

Having read through the posts re: last year's hang, learning about hmk-friendly sites in ANF and LPNF...It's got me excited to go.

I no longer have an FB account - so, no, I'm not in the FB group.

    LowTech and Old_Man_77:

I post all of the major announcements on HF so you'll see them here.

I will add LowTech to the "maybe" list and Old_MAn_77 to the going list.

I need to sort out some folks on the FB side but will post a comprehensive, to date list here where I have it done.

Feel free to message me questions or post them here.

    Hoping to see you both.

After years or delays and postponements I can't believe we are just over a week away! I started getting out gear and prepping to pack today and the excitement is palpable around here.

Just a few things to keep in mind:

Make sure to back in when you park and get close as you can to the car next to you.

Check in is at 2:00 in the afternoon. Please post below what day you plan on arriving.

While we are sure to have a lot of impromptu classes, demos, horseshoes, and a hike like we always do the only formally scheduled activities are as follows:

    Friday at 7:00 PM:
We will have a small ceremony in rembrance of Larry. It will be pretty brief and the goal is to not make it more sad than it needs to be. I can't see him wanting to bum everybody out. If anybody wants to say any quick Larry stories that is welcome and encouraged. This will culminate with a "21 Chug Salute" where we will chug 21 Coors' Banquet beers.

    Saturday at 6:00:
Will be the potluck dinner followed by the raffle

Raffle tickets will be $1 each and proceeds of the raffle will go towards Larry's mother's assisted care costs.

Wednesday and Thursday night we have reserved the Yarrow site (the big one at the end of the road)

Friday and Saturday we have added Lupine and Sage.

Please do not set up at Lupine of Sage before Friday unless the rangers give us the go-ahead.

If you have not paid your fees yet, please do so or bring cash to the hang.

If you have a hammock stand, please bring it. We haven’t had to use them yet but I’d rather have them and not need them than the other way around. I did a drive by last week and while the forest department has knocked down a few trees, there are still plenty.

While the national forest website says the water is potable please do not count on that. I got sick drinking it once.

Lastly, and IMPORTANTLY, please remember that just like in years past we will have a "POLITICS ARE FOR GROUND DWELLERS" policy. Especially with the way things have gone the last several years there's no need to stir the pot with political conversation. We get enough division in our day to day lives. We're here to hang and hang out.

Now, let's get them sheets up in the trees!

So far we have 13 attendees. Please let me know if you are planning on making it and, if so, which day.
