    Hi Here, Hanging in Seattle

I became a hammock-only camper around a decade ago after a duffel full of ground gear disappeared from storage. Had already enjoyed hanging and used the moment to place a decent sized order with ENO. Now I have a number of low-end gathered end hammocks stashed all over, but haven't yet splurged on (or fully figured out) the Dreamtm setup.

After years of skimming the forum semi-regularly, I finally took the step of registering before building out a hammock stand. Hours of rabbit holes has me drooling over the Tensa 4, but my first foray will likely be a diy tensahedron constructed from four downed trees. After that, I may be looking for a collapsible carbon fiber variant to take on a multi-week bikepacking trip...

Dunno how active of a contributor I will be, too many other hobbies/communities. That said, I'm looking forward to continuing to poke around and starting a thread or two when spinning up some projects!

I'll close with my well-worn hammock joke:
Q: What natural features make hammocks ideal in the PNW?
A: No dry and level ground, plenty of trees.

*/me considers the crickets from the welcoming committee...*

Sorry if my brief way of introduction rubbed some wrong. I do want to engage with the HF community, just trying to set some realistic expectations (both internal and external).

Other fun facts to entice some engagement:
    • I have been a desktop Linux user for over 25 years and often present on related topics.
    • I escaped leg prisons about a decade ago and am on version five of my own kilt design.
    • I went from zero to cyclist after ten years of not riding, and barely doing so beforehand.
    • I was put in charge of a sailing club despite mostly being a windsurfer.
    • I just left grad school after grinding for 5 years at the intersection of communication, computer science, and policy.

Perhaps some personal homage is key... Here are a few folks that stuck out from a more recent informational deep-dive:
    • Shug, I've enjoyed a lot of the circus arts and skill toys in your videos. Do you do any devil sticking?
    • hutzelbein, thanks for cross-linking to some german-language comparisons between the cricket and tensa4.
    • Latherdome and raftingtigger, I love the story of how Tensa Outdoors came together and can't get over how much you've both continued to contribute to this place.

Alright, I'll stop it there for now and start some contentful threads elsewhere...

Hogmanay—Trollolay; may they stay at bay.

edit: Just noticed that I never actually "introduced myself"... Hi, I'm Salt, but the forum wouldn't allow four character usernames.

Welcome to the forums! Congrats on grad school- that's an interesting collection of subjects.
I'll be flying in to Seattle next summer to drive over to Glacier in a campervan. Looking forward to a brief visit in that end of the world.

Thanks Charlotte! Try to make time for a ferry ride in the Puget Sound while here. It's a super affordable way to get out on the water and really see the city.

    altSalt,

Welcome to the forum! Great places to camp and like in the PNW. Had a few stops at Ft. Lewis back in the day, and enjoyed the Land of Liquid Sunshine. Gotta avoid those ant hills though!

    Best to you!

Welcome. Nothing you did wrong sometimes posts just slide by and maybe the famous "Seattle Freeze" has gone a bit digital.

A carbon fiber stand light enough for multi-day hike would be fantastic but at this time Tensa Treez are the closest to that ideal. I do really like using my Solo out on the coast where one can use existing structure as anchor points and can get by with just the pole and some extra dyneema, leaving the heavy anchors out of the pack and significantly opens up the number of possible hang spots.

Thanks, it's all good. I was just a bit peeved at seeing no other posts in the intro section with zero replies, including the ones that had come after mine. Anyhoo, I'm thick skinned enough, but wanted to be sure I hadn't made some foible (or could apologize if I had).
