    Hi from south carolina

My friend Henry introduced me to the forum and hammocks. I did a bike packing trip/tour down the length of Florida starting at the georgia state line in 2019. I hammock camped as much as possible. Finding spots to camp was harder than I thought! I bought a cheap hammock off Amazon and still use it. I've made 2 under quilts from Walmart sleeping bags. I'm sewing one from scratch now. Just waiting on my batting to come in. I'm planning a tour of the outer banks for this may and plan to hammock camp then as much as possible too. Is anyone familiar with good places to hammockcamp in the Carolinas? I'm new to the region. Thanks

    Hi from south carolina

For your comfort, your next hammock will be a minimum of 11x5. Even better, 11x5&half feet.
Dutchwear Gear can ship fast and reasonably priced.

For good places to hammock camp, go online looking at state parks and national parks.

And browse Hammock Forums for group hangs. They always have lots of well spaced trees.

For group hangs, posted on Hammock Forums
    Click Forums, Outings, Hangouts, Southeast

Also Palmetto State Hangers is a Facebook group. They regularly have group hangs year round, but mostly in spring and fall.

Yates Hang is already posted here on Hammock Forums. As always, on the time change weekend both spring and fall.

It's been years since I did the Outer Banks, but the NPS campgrounds were beach camping with only scrub trees as I recall. Recreation.gov shows pictures of campsites and reflects what I remember.
I have camped in state parks and forest service campgrounds in both North and South Carolina. Even in the national forests, the trees may not be suitable for hanging. PSH have a Spring Swing end of April mid-state. Good place to hook up with other hangers.

Congaree NP has many designated spots that are suitable for hammocks. Also check out the Foothills Trail and Chattooga River Trail.

Welcome to the forum! I bikepack in the opposite corner of this country and look forward to some trip reports and pictures of warmer weather.

How have you handled the *ahem* swarms of insects that I'm certain you'll regularly encounter...?

Welcome! There should be some group around that area.
