    Hello from the Midwest!

Hey! I've been lurking a while but I've decided to participate a bit more.

I went on a spontaneous road trip out west this past summer which really lit the fire of the outdoors under me. Unfortunately there is much less scenery where I am at. BUT that will not stop me from getting out on the weekends to do some hiking and hanging. I've been a few times, the most recently when it was 29 F . If anyone knows good places around Chicago or Indy to get out to, let me know!

Additionally I've started replacing my bought gear with MYOG items, which I recommend to everyone if you like to make stuff with your hands. It's very satisfying.

Hope I get to know you guys more!

Welcome Ezra! Someone will be along to give you some hints, or you could ask in the midwest section of the hangs forum

Hi, Ezra! I think there are a few Hangers from Indiana here. Karla with a K is in Wisconsin and keeps tabs on the many group hangs they have. It's a little further drive, but might be well worth your time.
    Have Fun!

Thanks for the shout-out, Charlotte! And yes! Keep your eyes open for Wisconsin hangs. Unsure of exactly where in the Midwest you located Ezra, but BACONFEST will be along the WI/ Iowa border this year and registration will be coming out soon. I also keep local hangs listed in my signature file too. (see below) Welcome to the Forum!

Welcome to the forum! One of my favorite "hidden gem" spots is the River Ridge backpacking loop at Forest Glen Preserve. It's just south of Danville, IL- right on the IL/IN border. It's a great little loop, about 11 miles total. There are a two dedicated campgrounds along the way. Perfect for an overnight trip. It's a very unassuming trail judging by the surrounding corn fields. But this trail has a lot of ups and downs and is quite scenic for this part of the country. There are also a number of smaller day hikes in the preserve- which are worth checking out.

You do have to register online if you're hiking the loop. I believe it's still only $10.
