A step beyond wearing red shirts to stay warm, while thinking warm fuzzy thoughts…
I stacked two zero degree under quilts.
I nested two zero degree top quilts, one inside the other.
For me, easiest to nest two top quilts by putting one foot&leg in first top quilt, then inserting that into the second top quilt. Then getting my other foot&leg inside both quilts, next to first leg.
I slept with no socks, pajama pants, and jeans.
Two polyester t-shirts, a long sleeve polyester shirt, and a long sleeve wool shirt, two cotton sweatshirts, and a fleece hoodie, neck gaiter, balaclava, and sometimes two knit toboggans
I overheated, just started sweating, got up and removed hoodie, and two sweatshirts.
After that I slept good and toasty.
Daytime when wearing all layers and a giant sized insulated hunters coat from Walmart. If walking, I quickly overheated and had to remove hunters coat.
If sitting still and not drinking a spot of coffee, I would quickly get cold and have to add back the hunters coat.
My problem areas were feet and hands.
Feet got cold! Solved that by sticking large sized adhesive Hot Hands super warmers to my socks and back into boots. Not perfect, but it worked.
Note to self, buy larger looser insulated boots, so that they will be roomy enough for thick wool socks and still not cut off circulation.
While packing up my rig Sunday morning, I might have some minor frostbite to finger tips.
I’ve not addressed that yet. I need to rewatch Shug’s videos on cold weather camping.
Layers work, I had up to eight or nine layers—shirts and coats
Polyester, better than cotton, because it does not absorb as much moisture as cotton. Our bodies throw off moisture even if not “visibly” sweating.
Wool is also much better than cotton in cold weather.
I used cold weather as an excuse to eat much more high calorie food than usual. And was warmest, while eating, drinking a small cup of coffee, while standing up or walking and telling some unverifiable stories.
When I sat still…I’d get cold!
Thanks to Homemadehiker and others for stoking the campfire; y’all did great!
Another great hang with some great peeps.

Stayed to the very end ! Myself,PG & Bob ( Joyride ) left around 4pm after an afternoon of lollygagging and enjoying the beauty of the day. It turned out to be the ideal weather for a Winter Hang. Many got a personal hang low of 4°. Around 16 hangers in all, 9 on Thursday night. We cleared $410.00 from the raffle/donations to donate to The Friends of GHSP. Was good to see the regular gang of ... ..... and make some new friends as well !
