What do you feel is the best width if you are over 6ft? What is the best width if under 6ft?

Assuming your talking 11' hammocks (isn't that standard these days?), 62" is my go to at 5' 11"ish but I sleep just fine at ~58" too. My best isn't necessarily your best....

In my experience, extra width is a poor substitute for extra length if you’re not comfortable enough. If you’re locked into a length less than double your height, adding width can help, but only if your hang angle/sag is steeper than normal so you can lay on a sharper diagonal to take advantage of the extra width. Then finding an underquilt that will cover you at that sharp diagonal is the issue.
Conceptualize an Amok Draumr as an extra wide, shortish gathered end hammock hanging at about 45° as an example of these relationships. The sleeper goes past diagonal to perpendicular.

I will second the Amok Draumr, for "the perfect lay" can be the chair mode, or the stiffer inflated pad, or the mushier deflated pad, or the ...
My perfect lay is a no-stretch polyester crinkle taffeta $18 -dollar 90" x 132" rectangle tablecloth with one inch channels in each end.
An aluminum 9-10 inch tube inserted in the channels creates my perfect lay.
For me, any give in the fabric es no bueno, and angle of 45-degrees to the centerline length gives a very flat lay with no stretch or sag; however I will say that sleeping flat on the ground is fine also. So everyone's mileage will differ.
wider the better dream hammocks has the widest you can get I think!
Its a good day to be out in the woods no matter the weather.Mist One..

My ideal is 60 to about 58 inches wide. No extra fabric to flap over on me and I get a good diagonal lay. I'm 6' tall. Some of my hammocks are 11' and some are 10".
