VIDEO: Snowy -15 Campout BWCA Eagle Mountain

A snowy -15F campout in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA) and the Superior National Forest with 3 friends was highlighted by a New Year's Day snowy solo sunset summit of Eagle Mountain, Minnesota's highest peak.

Great video! You had some incredible views from that peak. And props for sleeping in the hammock while the rest huddled in their hot tent.

Started watching on my phone but switched to big screen TV and surround sound. Wonderful video and sound quality.
Love that you hung instead of retreating to the hot tent.
BWCA is on my bucket list but will have to figure out how to get my husband to come along. We would tandem canoe.
    Thanks for sharing. Nancy

That is beautiful! Winter camping is it's own ball game, and when you get below zero, the game changes even more. I have a long way to go before I get back to that.
    Thanks for the awesome video.

Loved the video.. I've been following your channel for a while now and want to let you know you are doing a great job educating the public.

I just got in to hammock camping and went with Jared at SLD for the whole setup. My very first night in a hammock was on the hill behind my house and temps went down to mid 20's. Was nice and warm and can't wait to get a few pieces of gear for a winter hike. I still have my tent and pad with solid 20 degree UGQ quilt but honestly, the hammock is actually more comfortable and warmer!

For a number of my wilderness winter trips I used a smaller Dana Designs backpack to hook my pulk to the waist belt. The pack belt keeps the attachment points spread out and it doesn't 'squeeze' together like your harness did. In addition, it was a convenient place to have gear or stow gear away that I wanted to have handy for the day's travel. I also use skis instead of snowshoes. I used vapor barriers inside my plastic ski boots and would put the inner synthetic socks (drenched with sweat) underneath my sleeping pad to stay thawed out over night. Thanks for sharing. 100% on the after trip burger and fries

Thank You! More insights of what works. (and more importantly, what doesn't work)
Since I retired, some times I stay awake all day, some times all night.
